Dr. B.V. Raman (August 8, 1912 – December 20, 1998), regarded as the Father of Modern Astrology, founded ICAS in November 1984 to organize and promote the study and practice of Vedic Astrology.
Born in Hosur and raised in Hunsamaranahalli near Bangalore, he completed his education in Science at Central College, Bangalore, and specialized in Homeopathy. He was trained in Astrology by his grandfather, Prof. B. Suryanarain Rao, who founded The Astrological Magazine in 1895.
Dr. Raman revived The Astrological Magazine in 1936, editing it for over 62 years, earning a place in the Guinness Book of Records for uninterrupted editorship.
He made accurate predictions on global events, including World War II, Indian Independence, and the assassinations of Mahatma Gandhi and others, establishing Jyotisha’s credibility worldwide.
A prolific author and speaker, he represented India at international conferences, earning titles like Abhinava Varahamihira, Jyotisha Ratna, and a Lifetime Achievement Award in 1992. He received an honorary Ph.D. from Pythagorean University (1947) and a Doctor of Literature from Akhila Bharateeya Samskrita Sammelana (1968).
